What Drives You
July 13, 2011

What drives you? It's a deep question. Have you ever taken the time to really think it through or do you just go through the motions every day? Most of us, if we're honest, often times go through the motions out of habit alone. Take a second though and think about it. Apply it to any area of your life. Since we're a health club, let's narrow it to that specifically. What made you join the gym in the first place and keeps you coming back for more each and every day?

Lots of people are driven by past experiences. They want to avoid an outcome they've seen before or achieve a level of  health that they haven't in years. Family and wellness are other common health motivators today. While these are great driving forces, there are others that can be detrimental.

One such detrimental motivator is comparison. If you find yourself constantly comparing to others, whether it be looks, fitness level, or whatever else, we suggest taking a look in the mirror and consciously loving what you see in it. Stop comparing yourself to others! There's no one else like you in this world, you are special and unique and wonderful how you are. Another is perfectionism. None of us are or ever can be perfect, so we need not even try. Just be the best you that you can be.

Whatever your driving force is, we urge you to examine it and see if it's healthy. If not, and it takes being completely honest with yourself to realize this, maybe it's time you take a step in the right direction and figure out why that thing drives you. Remember, your overall health isn't measured by fitness and numbers alone. Good health takes into account your wellness: stress, your physical/emotional/mental/spiritual state, etc . You'll be glad you did.
